Promoting a General Forum

I recently created a forum called OpinionRiot!. I never thought it would be that hard to promote a forum, especially if it was based on general subjects. However, I guess I was naive. Trying to get traffic to OpinionRiot! has been the hardest task so far for me as a Webmaster. Right now I am trying the methods as follow in hopes of receiving some traffic:

1) Forum Signature Promotion - Basically adding a link to OpinionRiot! in my signature for many of the Forums I participate in. This method has brought my site a little traffic, but not as much as I wish.

2) Social Bookmarking - I have posted interesting Threads onto Social Bookmarking sites such as a Stumble, Digg, Etc. Usually this method of site promtion works. However, it hasn not this time.

3) Submitting to Directories - I have not yet started submitting OpinionRiot! to directories, but I will soon in one final attempt to gain traffic. Though I doubt submitting my forum to directories will bring immediate traffic, I am hoping it will atleast increase the Rank of OpinionRiot! so I can get some Search Engine Traffic in the Long Run.

Hopefully continuing to follow these methods will earn OpinionRiot! some members. I do not like to buy a domain that goes to complete waste, so I will be working very hard to ensure I get atleast some traffic to the site.

If anyone has any ideas on how I could bring some people to OpinionRiot! please enlighten me through a comment, I would really appreciat it.
